August 23, 2010 Cookie of the Week

MENU FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 23, 2010

I believe the Cookie Of  The Week Project will die a natural deathwith the final cookie #30 –a fabulous Chocolate Pepper Cookie.  This project started out with Warner’s officelooking for contributions for morale.  Hell,a batch of cookies – no problem. Then the second week, and so on until it hadtaken on a life of it’s own.  Repeats?Never!  On the other hand, I had no ideaI would be able to come up with so may varieties that were reasonably simple todo in large quantities (we’re talking 5-8 dozen most weeks). And I wouldn’twant to be quoted here – but I’m sure I could have kept going for a while. Itis amazing what the human mind can do with a few simple ingredients – flour, sugar, chocolate, oats, cranberries, etc.

[Note: As of yesterday I am working next week, doing what I've no idea, but my name is on the schedule, so there may be Week 31. Warner Note 2, there will be no week 31, Thurday the 26 is my last day.]

Here is theactual list.  There is not one that I didthat I would not do again.  The mostimportant thing I learned – don’t let your butter get too soft and refrigerateyour dough for at least several hours before baking.  That way, they won’t spread out all over theplace.

I suspect I’ll be doing a good number over again thisfall/winter.  Of course, there isThanksgiving – and I do send cookies home with the family.  But I must say, on a chilly afternoon a cupof good tea and a cookie or two can be awfully nice….And one or two with ahighball after dinner can keep one going until morning….Sometimes it is thelittle things that make for a good life.
