MENU FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 26, 2010

We’ve had a fair amount of rain this week – severalbig storms – so we are just beginning to see patches of green.  Still wouldn’t want to light a match in theback yard, however...

We had some great food last week.  The fish was wonderful, as was the flanksteak and the grilled chicken.  I alsothrew in a cold jellied consommé to help combat the heat.  With just a mere squeeze of lemon – this isso refreshing.  I think, however, thestar of the week was the cantaloupe salad.Fast and easy to prepare it was alive with flavors and happy fruitjuices.  Just a bit of tamari gave it areal zing.  We’ll surely do this again!

These past few months I’ve been reviewing mycollection of cookbooks yet again.  Ihave added quite a few titles to the book list which do not yet show on theBook Codes – so I  will try and get thisupdated in the next few weeks. Going through these books and magazines again islike renewing old friendships – wonderful recipes we have cooked and enjoyed.  And every time I go through them I find allsorts of new things that I hadn’t considered before.  Sometimes this is due to new skills we haveacquired, some for new ingredients that are not available and some just lookgood this time around. It is certainly a labor of love. It is also great fun tothink back and remember that 20 years ago we wouldn’t have had the skills orequipment to do some things.  Or that 20years ago we wouldn’t have dreamed of eating whatever – a dish we now so enjoy.Cooking is an ongoing education!
