MENU FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 26, 2010

Warner’s work schedule this week calls for long twelvehour days.  So, as my menus shouldreflect, I am trying to send him off with a hearty breakfast in the morning andgiving him a hearty, healthy dinner he can reheat at work.  Not perfect, but it beats PBJs andpizza….With these hours, he’ll need to keep his energy levels up. And mine too– in order to keep up with all this! I’ll be glad when things get back tonormal.

Julia Child, our aging spayed female, continues hernew career as a cougar.  Escoffier, Junior(as we might call him) a handsome young tom (coal black except for a smallwhite patch on his chest and huge green eyes) continues to hang around. Theyappear to be great friends, although clearly he doesn’t think much of her aginghousemates…I think the original Ms. Child would also be amused….

In any case, the cooking here this week is prettystraightforward.  I might be persuaded tothrow in an extra batch of chocolate chip cookies – good for all over morale.  But nothing out of the ordinary.

It has been cold and rainy here – am looking forwardsto better weather towards the weekend. We continue to harvest salads and haveadded a several packs of spinach to the mix. And our last chance of frost dateapproaches in about two weeks.  Whichmeans I’ll be suffering the aches and pains of a sedentary winter onceagain…..The only consolation is that this is not a sign of aging – the springgarden used to hurt just as much when I was a lot younger…..
